UA-WiSE Executive Application Details
You will need to answer the following 3 questions and submit a CV to uawse@ualberta.ca by 11:59pm April 3rd, 2016.
NOTE: You can apply for more than one position, but please indicate your preferences.
Application Questions:
1.) Why do you want to be an executive on UA-WiSE?
2.) What position are you applying for and why?
3.) What skills/experiences make you a good candidate for this position?
Please, note that the answers for all the 3 questions should not exceed one page in total.
Elections will take place on April 5th at 6:00pm in CAB 273. Elections will consist of each candidate giving a brief second introduction about themselves and discussing why they should be elected for the position.
Executive Positions: The executive positions are outlined below along with a brief description of what each position roughly entails:
Secretary: (1 position available)
o Takes detailed meeting minutes for executive and volunteer meeting
o Books meeting rooms and informs the team of upcoming meetings in a timely manner
o Prepares speaker gifts for various events
o Manages the uawise@ualberta.ca account
o Attends monthly tele-conference meetings with Alberta Women in Science Network (AWSN)
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
Treasurer (1 position available)
o Maintains a detailed record of the group's expenses
o Fills out expense forms
o Writes up budgets for events
o Reimburses volunteers & executives for their expenses
o Applies for grants, if necessary
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
Communication Coordinator (1-2 position available)
o Writes up monthly newsletters of the group
o Coordinates interested volunteers for UA-WiSE and WISEST events o Contacts outside groups for collaboration and promotion of
UA-WiSE events on their newsletters, (eg. other student groups on campus, CAPS etc.)
o Manages the uawise@ualberta.ca account
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
Advertisement Coordinators:
1. Poster Advertisement Coordinator (1 positon)
o Creates all posters for events
o Creates a marketing campaign (eg. organizes postering around campus, determines ways to get our events out, etc.)
o Organizes distribution of posters and in-class advertising of events by executive team & volunteers
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
2. Social Media Advertisement Coordinator (1 position)
o Takes charge of social media advertising for events eg. Posting on different UAlberta Facebook groups & pages
o Manages the UA-WiSE Facebook page
o Manages the UA-WiSE website
o Creates Facebook events and responds to any social media inquiries
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
3. Photography Coordinator (1 position)
o Designated to take pictures at our events
o Helps advertisement maintain our social media presence (Facebook and website)
o Advertises events around school (ie. Classroom presentations,emails professors, networking)
o Must own a camera, professional camera preferred.
o Acts as a UA-WiSE representative for at least one WISEST event and/or external board meetings
Event Coordinator (2 positions available)
o Organizes volunteers for UA-WiSE events
o Manages catering / food preparations, table set-ups for events
o Books event venues o Find photographers and performers for events
o Prepares event evaluation forms o Ensures events are running smoothly
Co-chair (2 positions available)
o Attend monthly WISEST board meetings
o Lead monthly UA-WiSE executive & volunteer meetings o Lead events by giving speeches
o Create calendar of events
o Invite speakers for events
o Attend meetings with sponsors
o Create strategies to achieve the group's mission & to engage more students
o Organize Clubs' Fair outreaches
o Contact person for industries, companies and the sister network WISER
o Oversee activities of all executives
